ABOUT RUBY

Meet Ruby

I love reading books. My dad was an avid reader who encouraged me to explore literature. Some of my favourite books include *Little Women*, *Anne of Green Gables*, and *Goodnight Mister Tom*—titles I still revisit.

I also enjoy cooking. My Nanny, Molly, taught me how to cook, and we often spent time creating wonderful treats for ourselves. My favourite things to make with my boys are sausage rolls and mince pies.

Christmas holds a special place in my heart. We created wonderful memories, thanks to my dad and Nanny Molly, who made the holiday special for us all.

I love playing board games and cards with family and friends. My favourites are Scrabble, Upwords, and blackjack. I also enjoyed hopscotch while I was in school.

Writing letters to friends is another passion of mine. I have a great love for animals, particularly dogs. I have many rescue dogs, most of whom have names beginning with the letter “B,” in memory of our first dog, Bonzo.

I enjoy chatting so much that my closest friends affectionately call me a chatterbox. Additionally, I love watching animated films, especially children’s animation and classic Disney movies. Some of my favorites include *Inside Out*, *Up*, *Toy Story*, *Shrek*, *BFG*, *The Jungle Book*, *Dumbo*, *Mary Poppins*, and *Chitty Chitty Bang Bang*, among many others.

Overall, I lived a colourful, beautiful, energetic childhood filled with creativity and out-of-the-box thinking, which helped me discover my creative spirit.

The Vegetable Garden Series started one sunny afternoon while watching my husband plant tomatoes. With a notebook in hand, I imagined the veggies coming to life—Tommy Tomato, Lily Lemon, Colin Cucumber—and suddenly, a garden full of characters was born. Our young sons helped bring the idea to life, giggling as we named each fruit and veggie.

The Hawkins Family Series is inspired by my childhood with my three brothers and our amazing dad. I used to share these stories with my own sons at bedtime—tales of real adventures we had growing up. Eventually, those memories became the heart of this series.

Each story is written with care, kindness, and the hope of sparking joy in young readers.
